In just one year, Lois and Micaela, founder of the highly successful cafe Saint Aymes, grew their Instagram account from 8,000 to 40,000 followers. The secret to how they did it? Branding.

To learn more, we invited Lois and Michaela to host a branding workshop for the Always Create community. They broke down the exact steps they took to build a brand worth following.

The amazing sister duo gave us so many great tips and advice on how to build your brand - we knew we had to share them. We’ve rounded them all up below so check them out and get branding!

  1. Consistency.
A strong brand needs a reason behind it. Focus on harmony and consistency.

  2. Be consistent with colours and fonts. Don’t give in to peer pressure or feel like you always need to follow the latest fad. Stick to your guns. Saint Aymes cafe has always had flowers as a key part of its decor, even before it was a trend.

  3. Keep your ideal customer in mind.
Who is the person looking at your posts? Always bear this in mind when creating content as well as new products or services. Ask yourself is this in line with what your ideal customer needs and wants. Develop different ideas for the same customer to grow your brand.

  4. Look for inspiration around you.
Choose an era for inspiration and create your world that represents you.

Pinterest is good for figuring out your identity. Create a few boards and see which one you are drawn to most.

  5. Create a brand experience.
Be true to yourself. Use who you are to push your brand. You are unique and that makes you special. Having a specific style is important – it puts some people off but draws others to you. Saint Aymes cafe is inspired by Wes Anderson. It’s about everyday luxuries and living your best life.

  6. Edit.
Make content worth showing and delete any old content that doesn’t align with your brand any more. Everything you do has to be the best of your ability so you don’t need to sell it, people will naturally be drawn to it.
